Blonde and Brunette are Baby Boomer sisters with literally lifelong experience in travel. Our parents took us camping in National Parks when we were infants, Blonde traveled for business over a 35-year career, Brunette traveled with her family and we have traveled together since 2002.
Over that time we happily transitioned from budget travel to luxury travel. Flying Qatar Airways business class to Abu Dhabi is a lot more fun than camping or watching the pennies on a budget trip. (When Blonde was working for expense-account-generous money management firms she quickly learned that it’s much easier to love luxury than penury.)
Although sisters we have led very different lives with Blonde (Kay Dougherty) being a single, childless (yippee!), city dwelling Marketing executive. Brunette (Anne Reilly) lived in suburban Pennsylvania, is married, raised 4 boys and worked as a substitute teacher.
We have very different life experiences but similarly irreverent senses of humor. Somehow it all works together to produce humorous and useful travel tales and advice.
In addition to our blog, which garners over 12,000 views a month, we have over 65,000 followers across our other social media channels. Kay writes 6 print articles a year for a Florida luxury magazine and does occasional freelance travel writing.
Kay’s background in Marketing is helpful when working with sponsors as she knows the business side of the equation and works with sponsors who fit in terms of style, demographics and ethics. (Of course, they also have to have a sense of humor.)
Speaking of demographics, we admit to having more than one. Our blog and the print publication are read primarily by Baby Boomers with hefty disposable incomes. However, the blog also gets 37% of its readers from the 25-34 age group. We think their parents make them read us. Our Facebook fan page has similar demographics. Go figure.
We only write about companies, places and products we have personally experienced (so don’t send us a press release and think we’ll write about somewhere we’ve never been). We are always honest and our readers love us for that (as do our sponsors because they’re good).
Kay belongs to the PTBA and the IFWTWA.
Some of our sponsors can be seen by looking at our most recent media kit.
