Several months ago Brunette and her enjoyably much maligned husband, Blonde's brother-in-law, bought a condo in San Marco, Florida. This would provide a place where Brunette could go to escape Pennsylvania winters and her husband. (He was only informed of the first part of that value proposition.) After spending two weeks there with his bride the hubby/b-i-l had flown home the … [Read more...]
Lessons learned this year……Part 2 in a series: We will do anything to try to win a contest
There was once a time when Blonde had more trouble coming up with the time than the money to travel. My how things have changed! And with more time there's only more desire for travel so the obvious, most practical solution is to plan on winning contests to fund the trips and travel goodies desired! Brunette is the contest-finding equivalent of a drug-sniffing dog so unearths … [Read more...]
Lessons learned this year……Part 1 in a series: Other species
For many people the end of the year is a time for reflecting on the previous twelve months and making well-intentioned resolutions relative to the next twelve months. They realize that material possessions don't bring true happiness, that aging naturally is beautiful and that there's more good than bad in most people. They resolve to be leaner, nicer, healthier and to finally … [Read more...]
Two not-so-little-anymore girls want something from you for Christmas
Due to the totally lame pictures entered in this contest (including ours) we actually have a chance to win 12 days in the Cayman Islands with your help! This is a minor pain because you have to go to Facebook to do it but just think of the good snarky posts we could write for you from the Cayman Islands! This picture was taken on Captiva Island in Florida and Brunette … [Read more...]
Places we’ve loved: Rovinj, Croatia
Brunette reads travel magazines with the same feverish interest Rupert Murdoch brings to listening to other people's meant-to-be-private phone conversations. A couple years ago she read an itinerary in Sherman's Travel for a trip from Venice to Dubrovnik and proposed a sisterly sojourn. All such proposals get approved. We chose our travel dates and planned to do as much of the … [Read more...]
Places we’ve loved: Nafplion, Greece
Nafplion has many charms but one them is not its name which can be spelled as Nafplion, Nafplio, Navplion, Nauplia, Anapli, or Ναύπλιο (the easiest for Americans to pronounce and spell). The Greeks could probably make a big dent in all of that debt if they could sell their excess town names to some underdeveloped country that is going to otherwise going to have to come up … [Read more...]
Weekly Photo Challenge: Delicate
Our entries for Traveldudes #PeoplePics contest
This young man - Leaky - was one of the helpers on a wonderful boat trip with Caicos Dream Tours from Grace Bay Beach to Half Moon Bay in Turks and Caicos. When we got near Half Moon Bay Leaky started to dive for conch shells to give to the people on the boat. It wasn't as if the conchs were everywhere - he dove and dove to find them. We are only used to seeing young men exert … [Read more...]
Picture the World Contest Entry: Singapore
We are submitting this photo because it shows how Singapore is a peaceful intersection of respect for the old, the Hindu deities, and the new, Singtel, a modern technology and communications company. In a small area Singapore has a richness of cultures, religions, history, modernity and tradition. … [Read more...]
Take, Break but don’t Stake: Horses in Vieques, Puerto Rico
On our recent trip to Puerto Rico we used many forms of transportation; big planes, tiny planes, shuttle vans, taxis, rental cars, ferries, kayaks, swimming, feet, elevators, escalators and funiculars,. We did not at any point use a horse. (The last time we rode horses Blonde came home in a neck brace so for Blonde horses are on the equivalent of her personal "no fly" list.) … [Read more...]
