Weekly Photo Challenge: Our 2012 in Pictures

Calling fame and fortune!  No answer.

This was in March of 2012 in Antigua. Blonde had been unemployed for long enough to be classified as a “discouraged worker” in U.S. Labor Department parlance. And Blonde was discouraged. She had been a marketing maven but, since losing her job in the U.S. recession, had become an extinct species due to age (too young) and perceived inability to use social media. Blonde has inabilities but they’re more along the lines of not swearing, following traffic rules and waking up without a drone missile landing in her bed. (Sadly other types of missiles in her bed have apparently been taken out of the Defense Department’s budget.)

The trip to Antigua was financially inadvisable in some regards (in the regard of not having any income). But, in another way of looking at things,  it was a “savings” due to Brunette’s eagle-eyed ability to find travel deals. This was a week at an all-inclusive resort – something we had previously scorned as we lived La Vida Loca at Westins and other resorts around the world.

Employment and finances had crashed but the appetite for travel had only become more insatiable as the time for travel had expanded.

As on all of our previous trips together Brunette kept detailed daily notes of the Antigua adventure. And also, as per usual, when we got back home and told people our stories they said we “should write a book”. Brunette soon echoed this idea but Blonde was skeptical that the sisters could spit out an entire book that people would buy. But she increasingly began to mull the idea as her employment applications continued to meet with silence, rejection, hostility or laughter (or all four).

And then it was Memorial Day and Blonde launched this blog to see if people would be interested in our travels. And then she had too much wine and signed up for a TBEX travel bloggers’ conference in two weeks in Vail, Colorado. And then she had to order business cards, have a Twitter handle  a website,  a Facebook fan page  and……

Hence the first post was lamely coughed up on May 29 and a new kind of journey had begun!

And now is the rest of the year in pictures that capture highlights of our bold new venture – oh, and of the blog too.

Thanks for being part of our journey! We hope to see you  often in 2013.

                                               HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
